Occasionally you have moments when you are reading when you get a new idea, something that makes you sit up and say “I’ve never really thought about it like that before”. I love those moments. I had one this morning when Sartre was talking about probability in objects. When we look at the setting sun and know that it will rise again tomorrow, or a quilt and think that it would probably be warm we are actually accessing the past, looking at the object through the eyes of our past experiences in which Suns rise and quilts are warm. That seems fairly straight forward when you think about it but I never thought about using that to demonstrate that we are in fact linked to our pasts.
